Don't be fooled by the name. A stun baton is merely a long stun gun. It is not meant to be used in the same manner a baton would be used in self defense. The stun batons are effective in keeping attackers from getting too close only if used properly. The same stun points that apply to stun guns also apply to stun batons. The chest and upper thighs are primary stun points which increases the chance of missing your mark on your attacker. It is of utmost importance you practice deploying your stun baton.
There are two primary types of stun batons. Standard stun batons and expandable stun batons. Standard stun batons come in several sizes from 10 inches long to 20 inches long. The stun prongs are normally located on the end of the stun baton so direct contact of the tip of the stun baton is imperative.
Expandable stun batons can be carried collapsed at around 13 inches. Expandable stun batons usually come with a holster to make carrying easier. The extendable stun baton extends to between 20 and 21 inches with a touch of a button. Unlike the standard stun batons that have two prongs on the end, the expandable stun batons are capable of stunning along the entire length of their body. This characteristic makes the expandable stun baton easier to handle and requires less practice and little or no technique to use. Both the Stun Master Expandable Stun Baton and the Street Wise Expandable Stun Baton are rechargeable.
